IPMP
Isopropyl Methylphenol (IPMP) also called o-cymen-5-ol,is an isomer of thymol and is the best replacement of triclosan.
Isopropyl Methylphenol has been confirmed by pharmacological and clinical studies to show strong antibacterial activities against parasitic microorganisms. It is high stable and more safety when used in cosmetic, oral care products and other pharmaceutical products.
Application Characteristics
- It is almost tasteless and odorless. It has mild astringency which is suitable for cosmetic application
2. It is non irritating and does not induce skin allergies at 2% concentration
3. It acts uniformly on various bacterial, yeast, mold and some viral species
4. It absorbs ultraviolet rays between wavelengths of 250-300 nm (peak absorption wavelength 279 nm) and shows antioxidant action
5. It is highly stable and retains its properties over an extended period of time.
6.It is a highly safe compound when used inPharmaceuticals products and cosmetics.

To 1g sample add 5ml of a solution of sodium hydroxide (1→10) and heat on a water bath;a colorless or light yellow liquid is obtained. To this liquid add 2 to 3 drops of chloroform, while warm, and shake; a yellow-green color develops. (4) The sample solution exhibits a maximum absorbance at the wavelength at 279+2 nm. |
