Physicochemical properties

Nicotine is a 2002 edition virulent, colorless to yellowish, oily liquid with a boiling point of 246.7℃ (99.1kpa), relative density of 1.0097 (20/4℃), refractive index of 1.5282, and flash point of 101 ℃.It is hydro-miscible below 60℃ and easy to solve in alcohol, ether, chloroform and petroleum ether. It smells like pyridine and charred spices. It is extremely hygroscopic, and gradually becomes brown in the air or light. It gets volatile together with water vapor.
